Even amidst the carefully styled actors who regularly appear on the red carpet, Sofia Coppola stands out.  It’s easy to see why.  The look of actresses has become boringly predictable: long blonde hair, strapless gowns, vertiginous heels and conspicuous bling. Sofia Coppola belongs among our purists, those who favor an understated minimalist aesthetic.  Coppola’s essentials have been carefully honed: narrow ankle length trousers, beautifully tailored shirts, low-heeled shoes or sandals, often featuring an ankle strap, and her Vuitton SC bag.  Being one of Marc Jacob’s muses has its advantages!

There is no shortage of images of Coppola.  The special features that accompany DVDs of her films provide a good source of Coppola’s working wardrobe. Check out the featurettes for The Bling Ring.  In the Making Of featurette she wears tailored shirts, flat shoes, and ankle length jeans or pants.  Note the buttons on the white shirt she wears in the interview: it features slightly oversized buttons, a subtle feature that enhances the overall design.  In another scene she wears red socks.  All these details contribute to Coppola’sunderstated style: she always looks like herself.
